Begin to expose your pet to a variety of friendly faces. Make sure to monitor their interaction, and keep the exchanges lighthearted and non-aggressive

Life after lockdown can be a bit tough, especially for your beloved pets who aren’t used to seeing new faces anymore. Being in social settings can make pets anxious or even aggressive. To help your best friend get back into the swing of social things, here are 7 tips to try:

Walk it out.

Start off by frequently taking your dogs out for walks. Slowly introduce them to different routes and environments. This will gradually build their confidence as they interact with new people, in new spaces.

Introduce them to new faces

New faces can be intimidating, but they help your dog get comfortable with the change. Begin to expose your pet to a variety of friendly faces. Make sure to monitor their interaction, and keep the exchanges lighthearted and non-aggressive

Let their paws wander.

Give their paws new surfaces to explore. These can be anything from grass, sand, tiles and gravel. Get them used to different textures and environments. The more the merrier. This can be extremely helpful when preparing for a vacation or weekend getaway.

Reward good behavior.

It’s no secret that pets love treats. That’s why you should use them as positive reinforcement when they behave in public. We have a tasty selection of treats guaranteed to give your pet something worth working for. [LINK]

Take them on play dates.

Nothing gets pet’s tails wagging more than playtime. Organise play dates and introduce your smart pet to other smart pets. Make sure that the other pet is also socially trained, and keep an eye out for any signs of discomfort. Your pet may be your best friend, but it needs a few more friends to start a pack.

Make them your sidekick.

Your smart pet wants to be around you most of the time, so take them with you when you run errands, or just going out. Remember to take them to places that are pet-friendly.

Give them some me time.

Having a furry sidekick can be fun, but you also need to let them be their own pet. Give them some time alone to find their own adventures, within your yard, of course. Use toys that allow your pet to play at a distance from you to help manage any separation anxiety.
